Pollyanna Bush is a vocal ensemble leader and private singing teacher at the Academy. She also teaches piano to singers who want to accompany themselves. Her formal music studies were at College of Marin, Mills College in Oakland, and San Francisco State University in classical, choral, jazz, popular, and music theory. Bush is a professional singer, pianist, composer, dancer, and choreographer.
She has taught music for over 25 years and she trained in modern dance for 15 years, including work in New York City with the Martha Graham Dance Company. Her student, Lily Elise, was on the popular NBC show “The Voice”.
She was the winner of the 2005 award for “Best Pop Song” for the song “Innocent Heart” in the West Coast Songwriters International Songwriting Contest and was awarded “Best Song of the Year” for the song “Strange” in the in the West Coast Songwriters Open Mic Playoffs. In 2000, she received a Marin Arts Council Independent Artist’s Grant.
Bush’s teaching philosophy revolves around achieving individual freedom and self confidence as a musician/singer and increasing awareness of body and achieving vocal health.
