Dragonfly Designs "Jewelry Making Camp" (with Yoga!)

Go beyond the limits of your average art class to experience creativity from a new direction with Dragonfly Designs Jewelry Camp. Move in our morning hour of yoga poses, games and fun! Inspire gorgeous hand-made jewelry projects from a wide range of exciting techniques! Explore the ecology of our local communities by enjoying nearby open land with fun outdoor games! Children get the chance to expand their mind, bodies and creativity in this unique camp opportunity that combines art with personal and community care.

This full day camp includes an hour of yoga each day.

Musically Minded Academy’s

“Glee Choir Workshop”

Work with master vocal instructor Pollyanna Bush to refine vocal technique by singing popular music in multi-part harmonies with other students. Learn basic microphone technique and have fun singing with students your age.

Intro to Violin Workshop
9am-12pm

By the end of the day, the student will be able to make a correct bow hold, hold the violin correctly, start plucking and playing open strings, and learn to care for the instrument. These skills are taught along with clapping rhythms and singing songs that the student will eventually learn to play on the violin. The students will get to bring home a pre made cardboard box violin and a foot chart they make in class. This class is a fun way to build a solid technical foundation for playing the violin while inspiring creativity and a love for music!

Student instruments will be provided or can be rented from Ifshin Violins (www.ifshinviolins.com, (510) 843-5466) prior to the workshop. It is preferred that instruments are rented before the workshop to insure correct sizing.

Schedule

9:00am-10:00am

Intro to Music and Basic Violin Skills: Music games involving singing and clapping rhythms; making a foot chart; playing posture with a cardboard box violin

10:15am-10:45am

The Bow: Parts of the bow, correct bow hold, bowing on shoulder
5 minute break.

10:50am-11:45am

The Violin: Parts of the violin, care for your instrument, holding the violin correctly, plucking the strings.

11:45am-12 noon

I’m a Violinist!: Putting it all together!

Tuition: $50 (plus $15 violin rental fee for those who do not rent their own violins). Deadline to sign up if using a provided instrument: Apr. 8

Mandatory Requirement: Must rent a violin for the class.

Musically Minded Academy’s “Learnin’ to Groove”

We have all experienced the joy of listening to a great tune and enjoying the groove of the music. Finding and feeling this groove is and essential part of great musicianship. Although this concept is simple, achieving and perfecting this skill can be a lifetime pursuit for master musicians. In this class, young kids will explore the concept of “grooving”. They will play along with professional music recordings of popular songs, rock oldies & kids tunes and learn to hear parts of the song–song form, as well as basic changes the bass line–harmonic progression.

This class will be fun and students will be able to play on their own instruments.

Horn players, violinists, pianists are especially encouraged

Popular violin and bass instructor Vicky Grossi will use her extensive experience as a classical teacher, and professional jazz performer to help children explore and discover their inner groove.

Musically Minded Academy’s “Fun with GarageBand”

The class will be focused on using a series of loops from within the program and subsequently making “tracks” or “beats” with which to put a melody/hook/lyrics over. We will learn to build a groove from the ground up with bass, drums and harmony loops! Learn how to use a fun easy recording program that will make it so you can record and produce your own music! Learn the aspect of production that goes into music making!

Sam Schwartz is a guitarist, singer, and composer from Oakland California and has worked on many projects such as Jean Quan’s Campaign music video and scoring different promotional videos for glass artists including Jess Wainer and Jonah Ward. Sam is also in Dynamic Truth, a band that has just recorded and released their debut album on their own label Dynamic Truth Music Group. Sam has been the artist, producer, and engineer for several different music projects, which gives him a good grasp on how to teach the art of recording.
