Introductory Level

OVERVIEW & PURPOSE

This class is for students that have never played before. It will overview the instrument and give students an opportunity to learn the basics. From here, they can progress to higher levels of study.

EDUCATION STANDARDS

This course is part of a series of ongoing classes offered continuously in consecutive sessions, semester after semester. The idea is to start in an introductory group and then proceed to ongoing group lessons. In this into level, group students will these skills:

  • Learning basic music concepts
  • Making first sounds on the instrument
  • Playing with a steady beat
  • Practice guidance
  • Learning basic tunes

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Get your start on a rhythm instrument! Learn to play basic tunes and gain aptitude so that you can learn to play in a band.


Level 2 – for second year students

OVERVIEW & PURPOSE

This class is for students that have had at least one year of music in their schools. It will continue with skill development for those who have some experience. From here, they can progress to higher levels of study.

EDUCATION STANDARDS

This course is part of a series of ongoing classes offered continuously in consecutive sessions, semester after semester. The idea is to start in an introductory group and then proceed to ongoing group lessons. In this into level, group students will these skills:

  • Continuing skill building on drum kit/piano
  • Learning repertoire appropriate for a second year of study

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Continue your music studies online with this small group! This format will allow you to continue to grow your skills even while school is all online. The small group size of 4-6 students will allow you to get individualized help and grow friendships with other musicians.

That this is the price for  a small group of 4-6 students for 10 weeks of 30 minute lessons.

Tuition does not include required materials, which need to be purchased separately by each student. See “Required Materials” section in the right hand column.

After the initial 10 weeks:

  • The class will have the option to continue with a new and longer enrollment period
  • For the continuation, if the class size changes, or the duration of the class increases, the rates will change accordingly.
  • We are a music school and after the 10 week initial period is completed, we move students over to longer term enrollments that include annual performance events.
    • Longer courses move to a monthly payment plan where the total tuition for the term is divided into equal monthly payments. Since there are different numbers of Mondays, Tuesdays, etc. in each term, we will wait to quote this total tuition until we know the start and end dates of the enrollment period. Ages: 9 to 18

Tuition: $195 tuition (See “Tuition Details below”)

Piano Intro/Level 1: Mondays, 3:00-3:30 pm

Drums Intro/Level 1: Mondays, 3:30-4:00 pm

Piano Level 2: Mondays, 4:00-4:30 pm

Dates: 10 weeks starting from 9/28/2020 to 12/14/2020 skipping all Monday Holidays

Where do I get an instrument?

BORROW: Some public schools will allow you to check one out while you are enrolled.

What is the difference between a music stand and an instrument stand?

  • An instrument stand holds your instrument when you are not playing it. This is good to have in class to safely put your instrument down when needed.
  • A music stand holds your sheet music (paper book)

Course Requirements

Students are expected to be punctual in/and attending all classes and performances.
There is a minimum practice requirement of 2o mins a day, 5 days a week.
Students need to adopt a growth mindset and follow the respectful online conduct.

REQUIRED MATERIALS

  • Instrument – PIANO: full sized keyboard with 88 weighted keys, a music stand a keyboard stand, a pedal and a bench. DRUMS: Snare drum, high hats and bass drum is the minimum setup, plus drum sticks.
  • Internet access (connecting your device directly to your ethernet will provide the most reliable connection for online study)
  • 2 devices for each class: one to use as a camera for zoom, another to play backing tracks mid lesson. 
  • Music Stand to hold printed copies of music. 
  • Sheet Music – TBA.

Tammy has performed and taught music for many years. She has an extensive discography and has performed around the world. Her continued involvement with her musical and cultural community include working as an instructor/lecturer (faculty)/mentor, with a number of schools and non-profit arts organizations dedicated to making music and theatre accessible to under-funded inner city children and well known and funded organizations.
