A welcoming ensemble for musicians who already know the basics of their instrument and are ready to make music with others.

New Notes is designed for musicians who have some experience on their instrument and want to learn how to play in an ensemble. Each musician receives music suited to their current ability, so younger students, adults and senior musicians can rehearse and perform together while still being appropriately challenged.
The emphasis is on listening, collaboration, musicianship and the experience of creating something as a group. Rehearsals build toward performance, giving musicians a reason to practice, contribute and grow.

Who is New Notes for?
You do not need to be an advanced musician. You do need enough familiarity with your instrument to participate in an ensemble setting.
Youth Musicians
Students ready to move beyond beginning instruction and experience rehearsing with a larger group.
Adult Musicians
Adults returning to an instrument or looking for a supportive place to play regularly with others.
Senior Musicians
Experienced or returning musicians who want the musical and social benefits of ensemble participation.
What happens in rehearsal?
Play repertoire together
Musicians rehearse pieces as an ensemble and learn how their individual part contributes to the whole.

Build ensemble skills
Listening, counting, following a leader, balancing sound and entering together all become part of the learning process.
Receive an appropriate part
Music is adapted to the musician’s current ability whenever possible so different ages and levels can participate together.
Why multigenerational?
New Notes is intentionally designed to bring musicians of different ages and levels into the same musical community. Less experienced players learn by hearing and working alongside stronger musicians, while experienced players develop leadership, listening and ensemble awareness.
The goal is not simply to put on a performance. It is to create a place where musicians can keep learning through the experience of making music together.
Brand new to your instrument?
New Notes assumes some basic playing experience. If the musician is just beginning, Newbie Notes or private lessons may be a better starting point.
